Eatin’ Pussy for Posterity

Posted in art, proporn, Rope Bondage on September 29, 2010 by Gray

Yesterday I got to fulfill one of my long-time goals. I got to not only meet Nancy Peach, erotic artist and painter of rope scenes, but “pose” for her. The hope was that Minx Grrl and I would be able to have a scene hot enough to inspire her to create one of her large 8′x8′ canvases, like the ones of Lochai & Madison Young or of James Mogul and Madison that are currently hanging in Wicked Grounds.

Now keep in mind, I love art so much, I married an artist. I actually enjoyed art history. I know enough painters to know how much work and passion and effort goes into these things, even the ones that are supposedly “quick” (like Kandinsky. Mmmm…Kandinsky). So the idea that some of my performance work – the rope, the way I structure and move a scene, etc – would be worthy of that kind of effort? That blows my mind. In a very good way.

There’s something very visceral about a painting. Ask Lochai how he felt when he saw his image, writ huge upon the wall. How humbling it felt for him. Paintings also have a different kind of a life than a photograph. Without getting all Art-In-The-Age-of-Mechanical-Reproduction on you, a painting is unique – a photograph can be reproduced. This does not make one more valid than the other, or better, just different. I’m equally excited about the photoshoot I’m going to do with Mollena and Michele Serchuk tomorrow – that one wasn’t even a life goal, it was something I never dreamed of (Serchuk’s work was some of the first fetish photography I ever saw and appreciated, and I’m in FanBoy Awe of working with her tomorrow. But don’t tell.).

Painting has some history behind that goes back much further than photography. Photography is the beauty that the photographer is able to see and capture; painting is beauty that the painter is able to see and recreate. There is also a different kind of feeling of history around pigments and canvas, and that’s what gets me.

Nancy took several hundred reference images during the scene to work from, and after sharing several on her site, she emailed us both to try and figure out which would be the best one to make into a large 8×8 piece.

Here are the four:

I love the first one, in terms of the line of her body, the way it shows the ropes, and the grip of my hands. At the same time, I’m a fairly disembodied presence here – and before you get all “Get over yourself, Gray!” on me, remember the purpose of this piece of art: it is to capture the feeling of the scene, not just the pretty lady.

The second two do a good job of capturing that feeling – the hot & sweaty of it, and the dynamic between her delight of having me “manhandle” her body (her words) and the motion of the scene (side note: there is a Rope Educator part of me that is delighted that we didn’t do any suspension at all. Floorwork is fucking hot, dammit).

The last image has great line, hot flesh, nice ink, ropes, and shows both of us…as I eat her out. Yes, that’s right, we did some oral play as well (if you click on the link to Nancy’s site, you’ll see my cock peeking out from under my AltKilt).

And that’s where I suddenly paused. Gray, said a little voice inside my head, you are about to be immortalized in acrylic and canvas larger-than-life. Do you want it to be an image of you eating pussy?

Some of you out there will be snickering. Some will be going “No way! You should be all domly and rope toppy!” Some will be “Dude, it’s fine, we just wish there was less of your face showing, so we could substitute our own faces in our imagination.”

All but the last one are actually sex-negative voices. I love eating pussy. In fact, on the occasion that new lovers will say “Um, that’s fine, you can eat me out, but I usually don’t cum that way” my response is “Honey, that’s fine, cuz it’s not for you – it’s all about me.” So as an activist for a sex-positive world, as someone who advocates “Never be ashamed of anything you do,” I had a responsibility to get past those cultural knee-jerk sex-negative reactions and go for the beauty.

Brad Warner, in his recent book Sex, Sin, and Zen, quotes his teacher:

“…on the basis of Buddhism, there seems to exist a kind of criterion that what is moral is always beautiful, and what is beautiful is usually moral.”

While I don’t agree with everything I’ve read in that book so far (he totally misunderstands and misrepresents polyamory) I like that idea. Looking at that picture, there is so much beauty there – the arch of her back, the line of the body, her ink, my ink, the fact that neither of us, in that moment, were thinking about cameras or paintings. That was a moment where we were able to touch the ineffable.

What better way to be represented in the ancient medium of painting?

I wrote Nancy and told her: “Go with the Pussy.” I don’t know if she will – she’s got the ultimate decision, because the painting is hers. But I have to thank her for this particular growth opportunity, to be faced with a sex-positivity challenge and feel that I was able to meet it, and move beyond it, in accordance with my own moral compass.

Strip Psychology

Posted in art, proporn, Rope Bondage, sex education on July 25, 2010 by Gray

A recent post over at the ever-stimulating Bondage Blog shows a still from one of those “great combinations” – in this case, Asian “pinkku” films with Women-in-Prison genre. As the Ropeguy puts it, it’s time to “Strip the prisoner!”

It puts me in mind of one of the topics I bring up in my Military Style Bondage class (soon to be taught in Paradise, in fact). In particular, when we’re talking about the “handling of prisoners” in a sexual-fantasy kind of way, one of the first ways to establish a heirarchical power dynamic is to strip the prisoner. This feeds on contemporary ideas about nudity implying shame or weakness.

However, we go a little deeper into it when we’re talking about playing military prisoner mind-games. I can’t remember where I read it, so pardon the anecdotal presumption, but the idea is that women and men react to the act of clothes coming off differently. It’s a matter of choice: the idea is that women should be forced to take off their own clothes, thereby instilling a feeling of shameful cooperation with their captors, whereas men should have their clothes forcibly removed to give them a feeling of being powerless to choose either way.

Oh, yeah, she looks REAL intimidated

Obviously this is gross generalization – I can think of a lot of women for whom stripping is an act of power and defiant control of their bodies, who would use an order to “Strip!” as an opportunity to entice and cajole. I can also think of a lot of men who would see the Dionysian attack on their clothes as being an amusing way to get other people to do the work of disrobing for them.

Personally, I take the view when playing prisoner fantasy games that “overwhelming force” is the way to go – not so much a matter of “you can choose whether or not to cooperate!” but more of a “whatever I choose to happen will happen – your cooperation or lack of it is inconsequential.” Male or female, that usually leads to them being a bit off-balance. From there, like most problems, any difficulties can be solved simply by adding more rope.

Or more lube. Or, I suppose, any frightening combination of both.

What do you think? Strip ‘em down? Or make them do it for you?

Support NYC SexBlogger Calendar & the Woodhull Foundation

Posted in cool people, event, NeatEvent, photography, proporn, sex education on July 21, 2010 by Gray

It’s that time of year again! I’ve been lucky enough to be part of the NYC Sexblogger Calendar posse since the first year they started, mainly in the form of publicizing their work through interviews, blog posts, the occasional scandalously flirtatious tweet exchange with Debauched Diva

And, of course, I would also buy a day. I have bought February 25, in fact, because that was the day Madison, WI took its rightful place as the Bondage Capitol of the World by launching the premier rope bondage podcast on the globe – perhaps, some say, the galaxy.*

Other people buy days for other reasons – to celebrate their birthdays, to rejoice in the day they realized their sexual maturity, to revel in wild abandon at the memory of the day they first combined Goldschlager and naked co-ed Gilbert & Sullivan curling competitions…

ah, the memories…

Ahem. Where was I? Oh, yes. Whatever reason you decide to purchase a day (or days) on the calendar, you can feel even better knowing that the profits from the calendar will be going to support the Woodhull Freedom Foundation. I didn’t know much about the Woodhull Foundation until Veronica Monet mentioned it in her Sex 2.0 Keynote…but in my books, all about free sexual spirits fighting the forces of repression and ignorance, the Woodhull Foundation would be like S.H.I.E.L.D. in Iron Man. Working to try and save the world, in spite of the idiocy of those who dwell in it. In short, they’re the good guys.

Woodhull Freedom Foundation (WFF) affirms sexual freedom as a fundamental human right.Woodhull is dedicated to making the world a more perfect society by educating, advocating, and researching the importance of consenting adults’ right to free sexual expression.

Many people and organizations have given incentives to buying days, as well. For example, Matthew Lawrence is offering custom mixtapes. Diva and Tess, the two original wild’n'crazy gals, are offering things like lapdances and nipplecharms. Lilith Grey is offering the Glory of Rome. Dangerous Lilly and Luna have both offered personalized pictures. Hell, up until today, you were able to get 15% off of your Maui Kink order just by buying a day or five from the calendar.

Those are some serious incentives. They beat NPR coffee mugs all to hell.

So what can I offer you?

I don’t have the looks of these people, or the quality products, or the social capital, but…I have words. I have books, in fact, books that have been said to make “very good one-handed reading.**” And I’m letting you know that if you go and buy a day, if you are one of the first five people to include “GRAYDANCER” in the promo code, I’ll send you an autographed copy of my Omnibus, Nawashi~Jujun. Personally inscribed and sent via USPS to the location of your choice.

And if you buy five days…well, there’s something even more special in store for you. I won’t tell you what it is. Suffice it to say you will have the chance to be immortalized at a one-of-a-kind event and given a unique commemorative talisman of said occasion. Further deponent sayeth not! But if you are curious, go ahead and purchase five days, put in “GRAYDANCER”, and I’ll personally email you and tell you about the special incentive. If you’re into having one thing that no one else in the world has, then this is what you want to go for.

Whatcha Doin’ October 1, 2010?

Cuz let me tellya what I’m doin’!

You ever have one of those moments in your life when you finally meet, in person, someone you’ve admired for most of your adult life? Maybe someone who you lusted after at first, and then learned more about and came to admire and even attempt, in some poor fashion, to emulate? And then you get the chance, say, at a nationally renowned event like Dark Odyssey, to meet this person face-to-face, even, in a small way, as a peer, as a fellow presenter, sex educator, sex positive advocate?

Then maybe you’ll know how I felt when, towards the end of Dark Odyssey Summer Camp last year, a mutual friend introduced me and my partner Octavia to Nina Hartley. I grinned like a school boy as the introductions were made…

Let me tell you a secret. Come close, I won’t hurt you, I just want to let you know so that you can be warned. If you want to make a good impression on one of your heroes, don’t have an amazing warrior goddess of a woman standing next to you. Not only will your hero not say one word to you, she might even congratulate your partner on her “excellent wrestling class” and express hope that she’ll “teach it again next year.”

It won’t matter that it was your rough body play class. Not a bit. Because frankly, buddy, next to the likes of Lady Octavia you are about as noticeable to a sexual connoisseur like Nina Hartley as a used condom on the set of Rough Sex. And just as frankly, ladies and gents, that’s just the way it should be.

However, I get a second chance! Due to the failing vision of Tess and Diva (in spite of the many, many warnings about certain activities and that clear liquid in the mason jars) Nina Hartley and I will be reading off the spiffy prizes at the SexbloggerCalendar Release Party in NYC! I plan on wearing my sexiest kilt, turning my Masculine Charm up to 11, my Feminine Charm up to 12, and hiding Lady Octavia in a closet for the duration. Maybe…maybe then I’ll get to tell Nina how inspiring she’s been.

But hey, if not, we’re still going to have a helluva time!

Or, perhaps, the reaction of giddy anticipation upon finding out Graydancer is joining the party? Who can REALLY tell?

*Ok, I admit. I was the one who said it.
**I said that too.

The Beauty of Fetish

Posted in cool people, event, NeatEvent, proporn, sex education on July 6, 2010 by Gray

There were a lot of great things that happened at the recent MadTown Kinkfest, but one of the most interesting and inspiring moments for me came during a chance encounter in a hallway. A Madison friend of mine, I’ll call him Conqueror, was chatting with me and DoNotGoGently as we refreshed ourselves with water.

“Drink up!” he encouraged. “You’ll need it later!”

DoNotGoGently smiled as I looked confused. “He wants to get a golden shower later,” she explained. My eyes widened further, since I’d not known either one of them were into that particular fetish. She read my surprise correctly. “Oh, yes, I’ve done it a couple of times,” she shrugged. “It’s interesting,” she added with a mild tone, much like you might say “Oh, yeah, that was a pretty good movie.”

Conqueror, on the other hand, was ebullient. “I had my first one yesterday!” he exclaimed. “I’ve done other stuff…like flogging…and it was like, yeah, ok, that was fun. But this!” His eyes were literally shining with the passion of the convert. “I think about it all the time. I can just be taking a piss, and I think, wow…this is sexy!” He looked again at DoNotGoGently with a shy, boyish grin. “So…I’m trying to round people up to do one later. Think you might be up for it?”

She smiled and hugged him and said that she would see him later. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen simply because she’d sweated so much in her scenes that her body didn’t have any excess water to get rid of…but that’s not the point.

The point, to me – the beautiful thing – is that he was able to not only identify that joy, but openly share it. He felt safe enough in the community to approach a complete stranger (he’d just met DNGG that day) and ask if she’d share in it.

And she was willing. She, also, felt safe enough to consider it, to decide that even though it’s not her thing per se, it might be fun to help him have some fun. Now, she’s just like that; tends to be helpful in many ways. But I can’t help but think that there is something special, something very liberating about not having to work through the shame, guilt, and persecution that accompanies so many fetishes.

What would the world be like if people didn’t have to be ashamed of their sexuality? Dossie Easton apparently posited the question at the recent “Three Wise Women” conference. I wish I’d been there to hear the answer…but I think I may have been in a place where I could catch a glimpse of that world.

I’m here to tell you: it’s a beautiful place.

In other news, you can check out a new video from me on fetlife: How to Rig a Dame (yes, you have to pay the $5 to support FetLife, and yes, it’s worth it). You can also hear way more about me than I’m really comfortable with on Episodes 9-10 of the Dark Side Podcast, who recently interviewed me.

“Freedom from Porn” But “Intro to Bondage”

Posted in art, family, proporn, Rope Bondage, sex education on June 25, 2010 by Gray

This is a short rant. And there are some minor spoilers in it from the new movie “Toy Story 3″, none of which should stop you from enjoying it. And I do recommend it; it is a lot of fun, with poignant moments and one of the best third acts ever put into a movie franchise. There is something there for child and adults alike.

But let’s talk about the adults for a bit.

A while back, the cool folks at Wizzard Media decided that my Ropecast was doing well enough that it deserved its own iPod app. Like Polyweekly, listeners could access the podcast directly from that app, as well as bonus materials – PDFs, pictures, wallpapers, etc. I did my part to generate some content, and Wizzard did their part to get the pieces together, and we submitted it to Apple.

Our timing couldn’t have been worse. That was exactly the time that Apple pulled their infamous “purge” on adult content – well, most adult content. An app that would show a pair of covered breasts jiggling was inappropriate; on the other hand, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit app was apparently totally fine. In fact, recently the Sun was released as an iPad app – yes, that’s right, the home of the frequently-Fleshbotted Page 3 Girls. Of course, quickly the Sun decided to cover the women in bikini tops…which apparently makes it all ok.

I actually spent .99 to get the Playboy app, to see how “age appropriate” it really was – and true, there was no “pink” in any images. Of course, the link at the bottom ( a big shopping cart) took you directly to the Playboy website via the iPornPortal (aka “Safari”). So yeah, some hypocrisy there.

But when I saw Toy Story 3, I became even more upset. Without spoiling too much, there is a complete FemDom takedown, negotiation, rope bondage and interrogation scene between consenting “adults” (ok, they’re toys, but notice how none of the toys are actually children?). And that should cheer me up, right?

Well, no. Aside from the dangerous precedent of no hard point (with a resulting accident – you’ll see) it also means that at some point there were creatives in Pixar – Steve Jobs’ brainchild – sitting around a table, brainstorming kinky bondage scenes for a rated-G movie. I would have loved to see the sketchbooks and ideas that preceded the finished product.

But more than that, I’d love for them to realize that if they can put shit like that in a kid’s movie, it is probably ok to put it into a device intended for adults.

And I’d like a pony with rainbows and a case of 12 year Laphroaig and an iPad, too. Somehow I don’t think any of that’s likely. So I rant, but I know, I know…it’s just a movie.

Grr.

Meanwhile, things like this make me feel a little better:

Graydancer Recommends: Nicotine

Posted in cool people, photography, proporn, Rope Bondage, ropecast on June 21, 2010 by Gray
The Sweet and Not-So-Innocent Nicotine

The Sweet and Not-So-Innocent Nicotine

You never know when you might be having an effect on people, you know? Let me take you back to an event…I believe it may have been Dark Odyssey WinterFire. I was sharing a room with friends including Lochai and Miss Calico. At one point we were all in the room, talking about stuff, and Lochai gets a phone call.

“Sure, come on up,” he says, giving the room number. There was a pause, and then he said,”No, I’m with a few friends…another model, Calico, and a rigger named Graydancer and his friend Naiia. We’re just hangin’ out, having pizza.”

And a few minutes later, Nicotine walked in.

Now, I might try some writerly trick and say something like “she was poised, beautiful, my eyes riveted onto her alabaster skin where it showed through the long slit in her armani dress as she seductively sauntered into the room.” But no, actually she was in jeans and a jacket, hair back in a ponytail, I think, and basically looked completely normal.

But there’s a power to normal. In fact, that’s how she got to trust Lochai. She heard that we were doing “normal” things up there in the room, so she felt ok coming up. When she got up there, Lochai, Naiia, and Calico and I all talked about normal stuff – not “ooh, baby, let me see you nekkid, yeah, that’s an ass I’d like to tie, mmm…yessss…my precioussss…” No, instead there was just chatting about the biz, about what she’d like to do, and a very cordial, friendly, and professional exchange. (Naiia says that she remembers at least one or two moments of Lochai lifting his kilt, but hey, that’s still professional. For him, anyway).

She was confident, and more self-assured than one would expect in someone as young as she is. And from what I hear from people who’ve worked with her, she’s exactly that: confident, professional, and cutting a beautiful swath through the fetish and kink and pinup world. You can see a lot of examples at her own site, but here’s some freebies, just cuz I like ya:

First, Lochai tells me that as a direct result of my being there and being nice when they first met, she agreed to come and do a bondage shoot on Hogtied with him and Miss Calico. I can speak from experience that working with Miss Calico is a joy and a pleasure in many ways, though when I did my TwoPlay: the Art of Making Out class with her this wasn’t exactly the kind of thing we did (note to self: re-write class curriculum).

Lochai basically giftwrapped Nicotine and let Calico go to town, in a variety of interesting ways, but as you can see he also had a hand in introducing Nicotine to KINK.com:

Lochai & Calico Getting a Nicotine Fix (click for videos)

They must have done something right, because she went on to enjoy shoots at other KINK.com sites, such as Everything Butt. While I’m an afficionado of the practice of anal sex, I’m not a big porn consumer of it. However, there is something about the setting and Nicotine’s…well, I can’t say virginal, and I’m sure she’s tired of being compared to Bettie Page, but let’s just say there’s a wholesome, authentic aura to her explorations – sort of a “Hmm, this looks like fun…let’s see what it does!”

Nicotine enjoying the pleasures of Everything Butt

Nicotine enjoying the pleasures of Everything Butt

That’s one of the things about Nicotine – she has that thousand-watt smile, so that you have these extremes of the woman bound and clothespinned one minute, and smiling prettily the next. Here’s some pics from a Ken Marcus shoot:

You can see why Ken has said “”You are so good, it’s disgusting.” Others have commented on the fact that she requires the “least amount of PhotoShop work since Dita Von Teese.” Yes, that’s how people in the industry compliment each other…I don’t recommend you try it on your partner, though. Might not come off as well. I suspect that Nicotine appreciated it, though, since she lists Dita as one of her inspirations – along with Lucille Ball and Tank Girl.

That hair! That rope! Those breasts! and OH! That expression!

Of course, while she is a fantastic pinup, my own preferences tend to rope bondage, so I have saved what I consider the best for last: her work on Whipped Ass with Claire Adams. Aside from just showing a lot of great and hot ropework – such as this very pragmatic bondage for impact play, or this bondage for fucking. If you like wax play or anal hooks (or both!) this shoot definitely has something for you.

Now, I don’t know if I’m going to ever run into her again – but I do know that I’m glad I had some small part in her producing this kind of great content, and if you run into her at a Comic Convention or other event, tell her Graydancer says hi, willya?

Like normal folk do.

Love bringing cool people together. Yes, I do...

Oh, Mother Jones. WTF?

Posted in family, proporn, sex education on June 16, 2010 by Gray

I’m frothing at the mouth a bit after reading this article, Have the Feds Gone Soft on Porn? There was so much wrong with it, and I decided to re-post my comment on the article (with the relevant excerpts). Please comment at the article; happily, most of the commenters already tend to advocate free speech and diverse sexuality, but every little bit helps.

I’m grateful for the comments here, because I’ve loved Mother Jones magazine for many years and read this article feeling like I’d slipped into another dimension. I agree with most of the comments here about free speech and not deciding that heteronormative sexuality is the ONLY legal sexuality. But a few other things:
Hughes chats with “Justin, 16,” who freely admits to having a porn addiction problem. She asks whether the girls he eventually did have sex with were anything like the ones he saw in the videos. “No, ma’am. The girls in real life are nothing like in pornography,”
Yes, Ms. Hughes, that’s because the porn stars are adults. They are also sexual athletes. I would expect they were different at age 16, too. Or is Ms. Hughes advocating he date older? Or that teen women get better sex positive training?
Lubben described how her porn career left her with incurable herpes, papilloma virus, and ultimately cervical cancer.
I am sorry for the former porn star’s health injuries…but there are some problems with the statements. “Incurable herpes”? As opposed to that curable kind? And papilloma virus is incredibly (and unfortunately) common. According to the CDC it is present in 50% of sexually active people in the U.S. I’m guessing she’s not implying that 50% of the people in the U.S. work for porn companies?
Gag Factor and their ilk, [Gail Dines] added, are now the main source of sex education for boys.
The last point I’ll bring up (though it’s far from the last problem I have with this article) is this statement. IF this statement is true (and I’d really like to see something backing that up) I agree, it’s a problem. But why is the solution to make sites like that illegal? They weren’t intended as sex ed, they were intended as porn. Contrary to Ms. Hughes, they weren’t aimed at boys, either – because boys don’t have the credit cards. Porn is an industry, and the client base is NOT kids, believe it or not.

So why would boys turn to sites like that? Because they’re not given access to better sex education. If you want your kids to be sexually educated, educate them! Support sites like Scarleteen and tell your local school boards that it’s a necessary part. Hey, if you REALLY want to be radical, make sure it’s sex-positive and pleasure-based sex ed, instead of the fear-base that is taught in most schools.

I am speaking both as a parent and a producer and consumer of what some would call “porn.” I agree, there’s a lot wrong with the porn industry – and even more wrong with our cultural sexuality. But articles like this?
Not helping.
