Not Above the Waist!

Friday, May 30th, 2008

I’ve already begun to get some notices from people questioning my placement of the electrodes on Arielle’s breasts during the last Ropecast review of the Deluxe Digital Power Box from Extreme Restraints. Allow me to address this issue here, before it gets out of hand:

Everybody says no E-Stim above the waist!

Actually, they say “not recommended” and “general guidelines” and the like. It is true, there is some risk of putting any kind of electricity in the area of the heart - especially in the case of pacemakers. I am not advocating the use of e-stim of any kind above the waist.

Then why did you do it, Graydancer?

Well, in researching for different ways to use it, I went to a lot of different places - and one of them was Kink.com’s Wired Pussy. The people that work there are very concerned with the safety and health of their models, and I mirrored the placement of the pads in several cases with photo shoots, including the ones on the breasts.

But those are healthy, strong, young fetish models! Most people can’t do the things they do!

True, very true. However, Arielle is a young, healthy, strong dancer, and as such I determined that the risk, such as there was, was minimal. In other words, this was a “risk-aware consensual kink”, and should not be used as a suggestion for play. Make your own educated decisions based on your own situation.

Kind of like Sir C is fond of saying, “She didn’t die. The scene was a success.” View the MPEG to see the technique in action.

“Hi Greydancer,

I’ve been enjoying your show on my drive up to work for awhile now. I am so so so glad that there is a kinky podcast that updates regularly that is both interesting and purposeful. Congrats on publishing your book - I’d love an e-copy, so thanks for offering. ;) I also liked the story about Reverend Hogtie - I agree with you that there’s no way he could have gotten into all that by himself. There was just too much going on. But whoever helped him was an idiot - whatever safety precautions were in place obviously went out the window the moment something went wrong.

I was wondering if anyone in your audience might be interested in my podcast- SubKnit. As you can probably tell from the name, it’s about knitting and kink. I’m trying to get more kink in there, since I have a larger following of knitters and I would like a kinkier audience as well. It’s not a very big leap from geeking out about knots to geeking out about stitches, i-cord bondage rope, and kinky knits. (There are some interesting projects out there, let me tell you . . . )

I have to go back to work now, but thanks in advance for the future plug and the e-book. I appreciate all you do for the bondage community, and if you’re ever in the Connecticut/ Western MA area, look me up. :)

Cheers,

Correction for SPANK!

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

In the last podcast, I mistakenly identify the URL for the SPANK festival. The correct URL is http://www.spankfestival.com .

Sorry for the mistake. I’m sure it’s my Co-Ho Megan’s fault, and I’ll be sure to chastise her for it. Thoroughly.

Welcome Back, Brother Monk

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

< a href="http://www.twistedmonk.com">It has been my pleasure, for several years now, to call Monk, the man behind the rope at TwistedMonk.com, a friend. It started with him wanting to kill me, as all great friendships do, and has continued unabated since then, including him and the rest of his family out there at the Abbey being a significant part of my recovery from a devastating life change about eight months ago.

So it is with great pleasure that I announce that he has once again taken on the mantle of “Official Sponsor” of the Ropecast. Does this make me a corporate whore? No, it makes me a very lucky guy who’s going to get to use and share a lot of the finest rope made.

Recently Monk had a motorcycle accident and has been dealing with the problems of being a guy who makes rope but has a broken collarbone and therefore can’t use his right arm. Add to this the fact that Monk is, by nature, a very physical guy, and you have one unhappy man.

Or you would, if he weren’t Monk. Instead, he’s writing about it on his blog, sharing the experience, and has also decided:

“we are going to have a big sale this labor day weekend. Not sure if you are going to have a podcast out by then, but if so we are offering free shipping and all our exotics will be onsale. I’m calling it, “I fell off my f’ing motorcycle and broke my damn collarbone” sale. Catchy, no?”

And about that podcast: as I write this I’m uploading episode 102, Takedown!.

The listener appreciation ropecast, where I go back and read all those letters you’ve been sending but I’ve been neglecting! Plus, some thoughts on dealing with breakups in the scene, and an interview with Lqqkout of Kinkfriendly.org.

Don’t forget to listen to Michael’s message over there on MyChingo. Also, I got one more bit of advice just as the podcast went to print that I couldn’t include. I’d like to mention part of it here:

"One of the things that I find helpful any any breakup especially with those whom I am keeping a friendship status with is to do a physical change to mark the emotional change. For my this has included: moving, dying my hair, cutting my hair, changing my clothing style, painting and rearranging rooms. This change that I can see helps to reflect the emotional change that I am feeling." — A Petite Blonde

This actually is something I did a bit of; I did purchase a full rope kit, made of Monk’s Lifeline, and it became my new preferred rope kit because it was rope that had never had minx or genevieve in it. It was my way of moving on, and it became a ritual of moving along.

Any other suggestions from you guys here in Blogland?
